Woodpecker Characteristics.
Woodpeckers are a nuisance when they decide to peck on your house instead of a tree. Woodpeckers hammer on trees for two reasons: in search of food, and as a signaling device. If your house has insects, then that gives woodpeckers a reason to peck on your house, causing quite a lot of damage to a home.

Successful Woodpecker Removal.
Successful control is dependent upon early recognition of damage and immediate action. The longer corrective action is delayed, the more difficult it will be to stop the bird's activity. First, a check for the presence of insects must be done since this food source may be the main attraction for woodpeckers. If insects are present, such as carpenter bees , an insect control program must be initiated.

Scaring or hazing woodpeckers may be successful if started promptly. The scaring method relies upon the woodpecker to respond to danger or an unpleasant experience. Woodpeckers may be excluded from some surfaces by covering the area with plastic, nylon netting or hardware cloth.
