Humane Raccoon Removal & Control in New York and Connecticut

Damage Caused by Raccoons

Most damage caused by raccoons occurs during the early spring when females are pregnant. Raccoons will destroy soffits, tear off shingles, remove siding and chimney caps, and take off mushroom vent caps just to gain access into your home.

Once inside they will destroy insulation and wires to modify the house to their liking. Raccoon droppings pose another threat altogether. Their droppings may contain Raccoon Roundworm. Raccoons are the number one carrier of rabies which can spread Canine Distemper.

Raccoon Removal and Control

Raccoons are one of the most common animals wildlife controllers deal with due to the fact that they have adapted well to urban and suburban environments. If raccoons have become an "outside only" nuisance, habitat modification may be possible without the actual capture and removal of the raccoon. First start by bringing in all pet foods at night. Secondly, keep trash in cans that can be locked or secured. In gardens the use of electric fences may keep your food safe. Racoon removal should be the last resort.

If the raccoons are inside your home, raccoon trapping, removal and exclusion are necessary. Raccoons must first be removed, then all entrance points should be sealed. After raccoon removal is complete, the animal feces should be cleaned up and the area disinfected.

Use Caution

Raccoons are nocturnal and sleep during the day. If you see a raccoon active during the day, DO NOT approach it. Call Westchester Wildlife at once. We serve Westchester, Dutchess, and Fairfield Counties.
